Estate Sale Timeline: What to Expect From Start to Finish
If you’re considering an estate sale, one of the first questions you probably have is:
“How long does the whole process take?”
Great question — and the answer is: not as long as you might think.
At Heritage & Home Estate Sale Company, we handle all the details from start to finish, and most estate sales are fully completed within 1 to 2 weeks once we begin. That said, every home and situation is different. Whether you're clearing out after a loss, preparing to list a home, or downsizing, here's a general overview of what you can expect.
1. Initial Consultation (1–2 Days After Contact)
Once you reach out, we’ll schedule a free in-home consultation. This is a chance for us to walk through the property, assess what you’d like to sell, answer your questions, and explain our process in detail.
⏱ Timeframe: Typically scheduled within a day or two
📌 You’ll do: Point out what’s staying or not for sale
2. Sorting, Staging & Pricing (3–5 Days)
After the consultation and once a contract is signed, our team gets to work. We’ll sort through items, organize them by category, and begin staging — which means turning your home into a shoppable, inviting space.
We carefully research and price each item based on condition, demand, and market value. This stage may take a few days depending on the size of the home and volume of items.
⏱ Timeframe: 3 to 5 days
📌 You’ll do: Sit back while we handle everything
3. Marketing & Advertising (Runs Concurrently)
While we’re staging, we’re also promoting your sale through our website, social media, email lists, and local estate sale platforms. The goal is to bring the right buyers through the door.
⏱ Timeframe: Begins 2–3 days before the sale
📌 You’ll do: Nothing — we handle the outreach
4. Sale Days (1–3 Days)
Most estate sales run for 1 to 3 consecutive days, typically Thursday–Saturday or Friday–Sunday. Our team is on-site to manage everything — answering customer questions, handling payments, and keeping things organized.
⏱ Timeframe: 1 to 3 days
📌 You’ll do: Relax — you don’t need to be present
5. Post-Sale Wrap-Up (1–2 Days)
After the sale, we’ll go over what was sold and review your remaining items. Depending on your preference, we can help coordinate:
Donations or pickups for unsold items
A full clean-out service
Additional options for high-value items that didn’t sell
You’ll also receive a detailed sales report and your payment, typically within 7–10 business days after the sale ends.
⏱ Timeframe: 1–2 days for physical wrap-up
📌 You’ll do: Decide how you’d like to handle what’s left
Total Timeline: 7–10 Days (on average)
Of course, larger estates or complex situations may take a little longer, but we pride ourselves on working efficiently — without sacrificing care or quality.
